Bala Plaza Park was conceived by native Philadelphian Martin M. Decker, a visionary and influential developer whose legacy in the city of Philadelphia and surrounding areas has left a lasting impact. Decker’s goal for the 62-acre Bala Plaza site as immortalized in a 1964 Philadelphia Inquirer article was to create “a busy office center in a campus-like setting…a modern Rockefeller Center” originally envisioned as a “satellite city” to Philadelphia. While Decker’s vision for the Bala Plaza property was only partially completed under his stewardship, his spirit of innovation and forward-thinking lives on today.
